Long Beach Nutcracker Returns: Long Beach Ballet's Holiday Spectacle

Experience the spectacle of Southern California’s most beloved holiday performance at the Terrace Theater.

A Long Beach Tradition Unlike Any Other

Each December, the curtains rise on one of Long Beach’s most treasured traditions: The Nutcracker by Long Beach Ballet. Held at the majestic Terrace Theater, this isn’t your average holiday recital. With a live orchestra, grand-scale sets, and show-stopping effects like a flying sleigh and live horse on stage, it’s a full-scale theatrical experience wrapped in seasonal nostalgia.

This year's production promises to deliver its signature enchantment across two weekends — December 13–14 and December 20–21 — giving audiences multiple opportunities to be swept into the magical world of Clara, the Nutcracker Prince, and the Land of Sweets.

What Makes This Nutcracker So Spectacular?

Directed by David Wilcox, the Long Beach Ballet’s Nutcracker is known far beyond city limits. It’s earned praise as one of the most elaborate Nutcracker productions in the United States. From professional dancers to dazzling costume design and immersive storytelling, every detail is designed to captivate.

Unlike many ballet performances that rely on recorded music, this one features a full live orchestra, elevating the energy and emotional impact of Tchaikovsky’s iconic score. The result is a rich, unforgettable experience for children, couples, and holiday enthusiasts alike.

A Holiday Outing for Every Generation

Whether you're a ballet aficionado or simply looking for a new family tradition, The Nutcracker delivers. Young audience members are mesmerized by the swirling snowflakes and toy soldiers, while adults appreciate the technical artistry and lush musicality.

Many locals return year after year — some with kids in tow, others reliving childhood memories. It’s not just a show. It’s a moment carved out during the busiest time of year to pause and let wonder take over.

Plan Your Visit

Tickets are already on sale and tend to move quickly, especially for prime evening performances. Whether you're planning a romantic date night or a multi-generational outing, now is the time to reserve your seats.

The Terrace Theater’s central location makes it easy to pair your Nutcracker experience with dinner downtown or a stroll around the waterfront afterward.
