October 6, A Day To Appreciate Taco Tuesday |
National Taco Day falls on Tuesday, October 6 this year. Thanks in part to a campaign led by Taco Bell and its then-CEO Mark King, Taco Tuesday is finally fair game for everyone. Taco Bell even teamed up with NBA superstar LeBron James, who had already run into the trademark issue himself after trying to register “Taco Tuesday” in 2019.
For decades, Taco Tuesday had been locked down as a trademark by Taco John’s in 49 states, starting in 1989. After Taco Bell challenged the trademark in 2023, Taco John’s abandoned it. A New Jersey restaurant that held separate rights to the phrase followed in October that year.
Now, it's less about court documents and more about what the night actually feels like out in the wild.
Now That Taco Tuesday is Liberated What is Your Favorite Taco
One of my go-to American tacos is the classic firm hard shell, giving it that crunch. It has just enough beef to give it some weight, then layered with some flavored pinto beans. To finish it, it has a touch of lettuce and tomato to give it that cool feel. And the sour cream really kinks into second gear for that creamy taste. What brings it al together is the red onion that wakes up all the other flavors.
Oh, the street tacos on any given Tuesday. Put me in front of any taco stand, and I'm ordering at least six tacos, made slightly crisp on corn tortillas, piled with charred, smoky asada. Then comes the bright, sharp hit of white onion and fresh cilantro that just cuts through everything. And there is one more source I must never forget.
A taco is never complete without salsa. My go-to is roja! It is a roasted tomato and garlic, charred until it turns almost sweet and blended with dried chiles. It warms slowly, settles in, and lingers long after the first bite. But my heart is for jalapeno. The flavor grabs on to you. Some people seek out the heat, but I want the flavors tucked inside. When served on skillet, smothered with olive oil, and the sweet white onion just makes it bloom.

Everyone around should be so excited that it’s Taco Tuesday. From the rocky mountains to the heartland, from the Atlantic shore to the Golden Coast, and all over this land.
Rush out to your favorite taco stand, support your local business, and just let the day take over. Grab as many as you can handle. Whether it's a quick bite or a full feast, Taco Tuesday has a way of pulling people together, even if it's just for a few minutes on the sidewalk.
