Long Beach Walk4Hearing Brings Community Together at Shoreline Park

The annual Walk4Hearing event returns to Downtown Long Beach with a focus on hearing health awareness, advocacy, and community support.

People from across Southern California are expected to gather at Shoreline Park this weekend as the 2026 Long Beach Walk4Hearing brings together families, advocates, healthcare professionals, and individuals living with hearing loss for a morning focused on awareness and connection.

Hosted by the Hearing Loss Association of America, the annual event is part of a nationwide campaign that supports education, outreach, and advocacy for people experiencing hearing challenges. While the walk itself lasts only a few hours, the impact stretches far beyond the event route.

This year’s Long Beach walk takes place at Shoreline Park near the waterfront, creating a visible and welcoming gathering space for conversations that many families quietly navigate every day.

Why Long Beach Walk4Hearing Matters to Families

For many participants, Walk4Hearing is deeply personal. Some attend because they live with hearing loss themselves, while others walk in support of a child, parent, spouse, or close friend.

The event creates an environment where people can openly discuss hearing health without feeling isolated or overlooked. That sense of visibility can make a difference, especially for families still learning how to navigate hearing related challenges.

Organizers say the national Walk4Hearing program also helps fund educational resources, support programs, and advocacy efforts that continue throughout the year.

Shoreline Park Hosts the Long Beach Hearing Awareness Walk

Set against the Downtown Long Beach waterfront, Shoreline Park provides a scenic location for the community driven event. Participants will gather Sunday morning for registration before the stage presentation and 5K walk begin later in the day.

The event is designed to be family friendly and accessible to all ages. Some attendees participate as organized teams while others simply come to support loved ones or learn more about hearing health resources available in the community.

Long Beach continues to host a growing number of health and awareness focused events that combine community participation with public education. Walk4Hearing fits naturally into that effort by creating both visibility and support around an issue that affects millions of Americans.

National Conversations Around Hearing Health Continue to Grow

Across the country, conversations around accessibility and healthcare continue to expand. Hearing health has increasingly become part of those discussions as advocates push for earlier screenings, stronger communication access, and broader public awareness.

Events like Walk4Hearing help normalize those conversations while connecting people with organizations and support systems that may otherwise remain difficult to find. In many cases, the simple act of meeting others with shared experiences can help reduce feelings of isolation.

The Long Beach event also highlights how local communities continue to play a role in broader national conversations about healthcare access, inclusion, and quality of life.

Loving Day is observed every June 12, honoring the 1967 Supreme Court decision in Loving v. Virginia that ended interracial marriage bans across the U.S.

The landmark case centered on Richard and Mildred Loving, a Virginia couple arrested for marrying across racial lines.

Their struggle and ultimate legal victory sparked transformative change for families nationwide.

While not a federal holiday, Loving Day has grown through grassroots efforts, community conversations, and films that continue to introduce new generations to the story’s significance.

In diverse communities like Long Beach, the day now symbolizes more than history—it is a celebration of acceptance, unity, and the courage of ordinary people.

Nearly six decades later, Loving Day reminds residents that hard-won rights require ongoing awareness and community engagement to maintain.
