Long Beach’s only Michelin-starred restaurant turns a Craftsman house into a six-course mission of flavor and sustainability.

Long Beach’s only Michelin-starred restaurant turns a Craftsman house into a six-course mission of flavor and sustainability.
Heritage serves one thing — a six-course seasonal tasting menu — crafted nightly from produce grown a mile away on their own farm. Chef Philip Pretty and his sister Lauren have built a restaurant that feeds the neighborhood while earning both a Michelin Star and a Green Star for sustainability. No menu, no walk-ins — just an evening of intention from first bite to last.

The Heritage is Not Just MISSION it is a Plate

Take Your Palate On An Experience

Reservations are required for the six-course flavor experience, each plate designed just for the night.

There’s no printed menu, no list of entrées—just a quiet progression of dishes shaped by the season and by what’s growing a mile away at Heritage Farm. From the first bright amuse to the final sweet bite, the evening moves in deliberate rhythm, each course revealing a new layer of flavor, texture, and care. It’s not dining as spectacle; it’s dining as intention.

Born from a vision to feed Long Beach with care and purpose.

Heritage began in 2020, when chef Philip Pretty and his sister Lauren transformed a historic Craftsman home on Long Beach’s 7th Street into a dining room with a mission. As reported by the Long Beach Post, the siblings set out to create a restaurant that belonged to the neighborhood but reached beyond it—a place where the food was grown nearby, cooked with care, and served without waste. That vision led them to establish Heritage Farm, just a mile from the restaurant, where much of the menu begins its life in the soil. For the Prettys, the goal was never to follow trends or chase status; it was to feed people fresh, thoughtful food in a way that made a lasting impact on their community.

Recognition that deepened, not changed, their mission.

That commitment—to the farm, to the craft, to the community—didn’t just resonate with diners. In 2023, Michelin awarded Heritage both a Michelin Star for culinary excellence and a Michelin Green Star for sustainability, making it the first restaurant in Long Beach to earn either distinction (Long Beach Post, LAist). The accolades didn’t change their approach; they deepened it. The team still cooks with the same quiet focus, still sources from their own rows of vegetables and trusted small purveyors, and still serves only one thing: a six-course tasting menu, plated each night as if it’s the only meal that matters.

Old House Is Open for Upscale Dining – No Reservations Required

Once inside, you’ll forget it’s a house “Those who are brave enough to knock on the door” are greeted by a host. Many people sit outside. I did too. No knocking required.

Today, I tried the famous Mac & Cheetos. It looks small, but it’s really an entrée. Rich, creamy cheese sauce with a sharp cheddar base, brightened by the zing of crushed hot Cheetos. The pasta is tender but holds its shape, and the dish finishes with a subtle peppery bite and a little tang from the garnish. It’s indulgent, salty, a little spicy, and totally over the top by design. It was fulfilling!

The Attic is one of those stories of business vision and perseverance. Located near Redondo and Broadway, it occupies a beautifully preserved 1920s Craftsman-style house with a wide front porch. Above the porch, a sleek slatted cover stretches over the patio, letting in light while keeping diners shaded. Just off to the side of the house is a full bar with high-top seating.

The vibe is cozy, but not too small for groups or a get-together. It’s the kind of place you take someone for memories and fun.
