An afternoon of music, animals, and imagination arrives in downtown Long Beach on September 28, as the RuMBa Foundation Family Concerts present Wild Symphony! at the Terrace Theater & Plaza. Created by bestselling author Dan Brown, this one-of-a-kind experience combines orchestral storytelling, whimsical animations, and hands-on pre-show activities—all designed with families in mind.
Long Beach Symphony invites the community to experience something rare: a classical concert event where kids are encouraged to wiggle, laugh, and engage with the music. As Dan Brown’s compositions bring his charming animal characters to life, the projected illustrations and narrative elements create a full sensory journey for attendees of all ages.
What Is Wild Symphony!? A Family Concert Unlike Any Other
Wild Symphony! is an orchestral suite written by Dan Brown, better known for novels like The Da Vinci Code. But in this imaginative turn, he swaps suspense for symphonic joy, guiding listeners through musical portraits of animals—from the cheerful cheetah to the steady turtles. Each movement is paired with narrated poetry and vibrant animations projected overhead, bringing Brown’s accompanying picture book to life on stage.
The result is a multimedia concert experience where music and visuals work together to entertain and inspire curiosity. It’s a perfect introduction to classical instruments for children and a charming afternoon outing for the whole family.
Pre-Concert Activities on the Plaza
From 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, the Terrace Plaza outside the theater will transform into an interactive wonderland. Local arts organizations and education partners will host booths offering crafts, music stations, and science-based activities that connect with the themes of the concert.
It’s not just about listening—it’s about doing. Children can build instruments, explore rhythm, and even meet musicians. These hands-on experiences are designed to make the music more accessible and memorable once the concert begins at 3:00 PM inside the Terrace Theater.
Why It Matters: Music Education for a New Generation
With funding from the RuMBa Foundation, Long Beach Symphony’s family concerts help bridge the gap between arts access and childhood development. Events like Wild Symphony! introduce kids to live orchestral music in an environment that’s fun, not formal.
As schools continue to face arts program cuts, these public events offer critical cultural exposure. They also foster a sense of community, inviting families from every neighborhood in Long Beach to participate, regardless of musical background.
